Summary:

SPP partners designed, executed and delivered the premier learning and development benchmarking award program. The program has driven many Fortune 500 companies, small and medium businesses, federal agencies, academic institutions, and non-profits to enhance their approach to workforce learning and development with demonstrable business value.

About the Client:

The client is a leading integrated media company serving the human capital, management,  workforce development, and diversity and inclusion industries.

The Challenge:

First, the client wanted to build a robust benchmarking program designed to drive higher standards across the field of learning and development and to empower Learning & Development organizations through awards and recognition.

The Solution:

  • The Learning & Development benchmarking model was built in a three-phase process. First, through an extensive review of academic research and employing measurement best practices a foundational Learning & Development benchmarking model was established. Second, a team of senior Learning & Development executives from public and private industries, magazine editors and measurement experts collaborated to enhance the model. Third, focus groups were conducted with Learning & Development practitioners to vet and refine the final version. The program utilizes best practices in evaluation to rank the best organizations based upon their impact, size and industries served. The resulting program was a peer-reviewed program designed to:
  • Identify and recognize Learning & Development industry leaders
  • Promote recognition of the critical role that learning and development plays in organizational success
  • Support organizations in achieving best-in-class levels of performance
  • Identify and share best practices, principles and strategies for learning and development
  • Provide powerful benchmarking data for world-class learning and development

The program was open to Learning & Development organization of all sizes and industries.  All application items were drafted and scored adhering to measurement best practices. All applications were peer reviewed and rated, and then rankings were determined. The top five rankings were required to participate in the capstone experience prior to the final rankings. All applicants received a custom scorecard comparing their ratings to the core model, across time and to the other applicants. Improvements and recommendations were offered for continuous improvement. All finalists were invited to an awards ceremony.

The Outcome:

  • The Learning & Development benchmarking program has been in existence for four years and elevated the conversation of better practices in the Learning & Development industry. In addition, it has pushed many organizations to achieve exceptional results!
