Diversity & Inclusion – Benchmarking Award Program

Created a Diversity & Inclusion benchmarking award program.

Capabilities Enabled:

  • A Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) benchmarking program designed to examine an organization as a multidimensional model wherein the diversity and inclusion function is part of all facets of the enterprise from strategy to business valuation.

Impact Created:

  • Provided D&I functions an evidence-based framework model to benchmark seven critical areas of diversity and inclusion strategies that have been demonstrated to deliver value to the organization through innovation and continuous improvement.

Summary:

As a foundational effort, a D&I benchmarking program was designed to examine how the D&I function is adding value across the organization.

About the Client:

The client is a leading integrated media company serving the human capital, management, workforce development, and diversity and inclusion industries.

The Challenge:

There were concerns about the validity and visibility of existing Diversity & Inclusion ranking and awards programs. The initiative was to build a transparent D&I benchmarking program that did not exclusively examine demographic and compliance information to determine the level of diversity an organizations, but to make a connection between diversity and evidence-supported, outcome-based utilization of diversity within the organization.

The Solution:

The D&I benchmarking model was designed with magazine editors and researchers, as well as a team of senior diversity executives.  They developed the prototype model that would allow for improved benchmarking of diversity and inclusion by examining how the D&I function is correlated throughout an organization. The team of senior diversity executives included some of the most important people working with diversity today. The resulting model uses an evidence-based framework model to benchmark seven critical areas of diversity and inclusion strategies that have been demonstrated to deliver value to the organization through innovation and continuous improvement. All application items were drafted and scored adhering to measurement best practices. All applications were peer reviewed and rated then rankings were determined. The top five rankings were required to participate in the capstone experience prior to the final rankings. All applicants received a custom scorecard comparing their ratings to the core model, across time and to the other applicants. Improvements and recommendations were offered for continuous improvement. All finalists were invited to and awards ceremony.

The Outcome:

  • The D&I benchmarking program has been in existence for two years and has enhanced the value of the D&I function by educating many organizations on the value the function.
